We need to talk...first, quit hiding in the bushes.
Ok, things haven't been great
lately, you've been through a lot. First the denial, overlooking mounting evidence
that the idiot you helped elect has been destroying our country. It's not easy to
ignore something that big, talk about your elephant in the room.
Yeah, I know, the anger and betrayal, humiliation, and embarrassment of being so
naïvely stupid is hard to acknowledge. Eating crow with your tail between your
legs can't be much fun, didn't know you had a tail, did you?
I can see why you've been keeping all those feeling to yourself and haven't
denounced the Bush administration outright. Until lately, you kept thinking/hoping
your doubts were wrong, and that Bush really is a great guy. Besides, he's a
christian man so of course you assumed he'd realize his errors in judgment and
correct them honestly, with integrity. Unfortunately there are so many signs
impossible to ignore, social security, deficit spending, Katrina, confusing drug
coverage for Seniors, your best friends job shipped overseas, Still, you have
hope, Fox news said...
and they've never steered you wrong before except about Saddam Hussein and Osama
Bin Laden being in cahoots, or that little WMD thing, and...
What ever, it gives you a headache thinking about it doesn`t it? Just so
you know,
I saw you picking at your Bush/Cheney bumper sticker, the other day.
"Oh look it's falling off" you said, "how did that happen?"
You aren't looking forward to the I told you so's, especially since you defended
Bush and the Republican party so loudly for so long, yes you realize now that
you were a little arrogant, okay a lot. Who wouldn`t be with those "bleeding heart
Liberals" finally shut down and such a decent man in the white house. Finally
someone able to fix what's wrong with our Government and Country, or so you thought.
Boy, you had that just about exactly backwards, Orwellian kind of. You've been
hearing that word a lot lately, you'll have to look it up one of these days and
see what it means.
You're not stupid, how could you have been so wrong? But you were and now
shamefaced you admit it, at least to yourself. As you take a realistic look
around at how things have changed you are frightened and confused at what you see.
When did this happen, how, what...?
You realize with stark clarity that there's been so much damage done to America
and the world in our name.
I understand your sadness, and the overwhelming shame of your contribution to this
dark time in our nation's history. You tell yourself it can't be as bad as it looks,
probably just that libral media over dramatizing things, but even as those thoughts slither
into your consciousness, you know it just isn't so.
You worry for a moment about the consequences of your actions, you have contributed
to the downward spiral of our Nation. Fear of retribution haunts you. You hope
that people stay focused on Bush and his wrongdoing and not the Bush voter's
complicity.
He sure hasn't been a Uniter has he? You've never had so many fierce political
battles fought at work or with friends and family, before this President. Your
brother still refuses to take your calls. Sure he's a little too sensitive,
but you miss him and it hurts.
Now this NSA thing, what's it all about? Reports that millions of American's phone
calls are being tracked. You think back to your affair with that co-worker and all
those late night clandestine phone calls.
No, it's not about that, the government wont be telling your spouse, and yet
instinctively you know it has the potential to develop into a very bad thing for
America's privacy rights.
You might not know this, especially if you've been watching a lot of Fox news,
but we Democrats are basically pretty forgiving people, and most of us will forgive
you in time. However there are a few things I want to make crystal clear to you.
Those of us who have been aware of the problem since Jan. 2001, have been
shouldering the burden of trying to correct the damage.
Bush and his administration have out damaged the worst expectations of most of us,
unbelievable but true.
Now YOU finally see the truth don`t you?
We have been tuned in, informed, worried,
and have worked to correct the situation. Many of us have tried to inform unenlightened
souls such as your former self. It's been and may well continue to be a horrific
nightmare.
We are weary, we are demoralized, we are frightened, and we are not giving up the
fight.
You need to know that we have been carrying the load for over 5 years, and that
includes your share. If it hadn't been for us, saving our Democracy would be
hopeless by now, it may still be too late, but it would have
been far worse without our vigilant oversight and bell ringing, (whining as you
used to call it). If we all had seen things the way you did, America would be
unstoppably the most dangerous, powerful Fascist government in the world by now,
with a domestic spying infrastructure capable of foiling most if not all dissent.
I fear America may already be that, but I have to believe there's still hope.
Frankly much work needs to be done by "We The People" because many of our Democratic
Representatives have abandoned our Country's needs and best interest at this most
critical time in our nation's history.
My message to you is simple: you will be forgiven in time, but you need to get
over the denial and shame, and admit you screwed up, get off your dead ass and
DO SOMETHING to stop this train wreck of a government you voted in, before the
lights go out for good on our once beautiful Democracy.
You can do better than hiding in the bush. Join us, we can fix this together,
but there is much work to be done, and you have a lot of catching up to do.
